STUB SUPPORT POSTS

If the deck is to be raised off the ground then you will need to support the framework or joists on a series of support posts.
Support Post 100 x 100 Support posts (sawn timber or eased and regulated) should be positioned 1.20m apart along the bearer and 1.80m apart between bearers.

The notches in the tops of the posts aid the positioning and support for the 150 x 50 bearers.

The support post here has been set in the hole, held in place with temporary battens ready for concrete. The structural bearer is being used to provide lateral bracing.

Support posts and bearers

The support posts are held in position by temporary battens and the bearers whilst they are set in concrete

SUPPORT POSTS
Not all decks are raised off the ground, most are built at ground level or just above the turf. Nevertheless, the deck structure still needs to be supported.

For this we use stub support posts much on the same way as raised support posts, but usually without the bearers. The spacing of the posts are effectively the same, but are fixed directly to the joists framework. The notched cut out at the top of the posts enable the post to fix to the side and under the joist, thus allowing for the distribution of the weight loading to be transferred down the centre of the post.
