The DEVON Range of Glass Balustrade
with Wooden Posts
back
Glass Balustrades can be simply fixed to wooden newel posts by using our rust free powder coated aluminium top and bottom rail Glass Channels. The Glass Channels, in white or black, come in two standard lengths of 1.2m and 1.5m. The channels are suitable for either 8m or 10m toughened glass.

Our DEVON Balustrades are easy to assemble.

We can only supply glass and channels to level decking.
  Devon Glass Panel

Assembly Instructions for Devon Glass Balustrades

1. Erect Newel Posts.

2. Measure distance between Newel Posts. This is the 'Channel length'.

3. Deduct 6cm off the Channel length to obtain the 'Glass width'. (The glass width is slightly shorter than the Channel length to allow space for the connectors.)

4. The Channels are supplied in 2 standard lengths of either 1.2 metres or 1.5 metres. We are able to cut these to your required length or you can do this yourself. If a 1.5 metre Channel is used you will need a support for the Channel. (The height of this support can be adjusted to between 75mm and 100mm.)

5. Push the top and bottom Channels into the Connectors so that the Channels are flush with the back of the Connectors, and the flat sides of the Connectors are placed along the flat solid part of the Channels.

6. For added security a pilot hole can be drilled through the flat section of the Connectors and Channels, and be secured with 10mm stainless steel self tapping screw (supplied).

7. The bottom Channel plus Connector unit is screwed to the newel posts using 50mm stainless steel screws (supplied), and if a support is being used this is placed beneath the bottom Channel. The stainless steel self tapping screw (supplied) secures the support.

8. The glass is inserted and the top Channel screwed to the newel post. If 10m glass is used, then spray the rubber inserts with a silicone spray to allow the glass to be easily inserted in the rubber.

9. The handrail is then fixed to the newel posts. Depending on the type of handrail used, it may be necessary to fix the handrail before adding the Channels.

back    Datchet Glass

Assembly Instructions for Datchet Glass Balustrades

1. Erect Wooden Newel Posts.

2. Measure distance between posts.

3. Deduct 4cm from the distance between the posts to calculate the width of the glass. (This allows a 2cm gap between the edge of the glass and the post. This gap is required for the glass clamps.)

4. Please note: the glass clamps have lugs in them. These are not required unless the glass overhangs the decking. In the event of the glass slipping, it will only slip to the deck level. We do not supply drilled glass for overhanging balustrades.

5. Measure height of glass that you require.

6. Place your order for Glass Clamps and glass.

7. The glass and Glass Clamps will arrive separately. You should allow around 3 weeks for the receipt of the glass as it is cut to your size and then tempered.

8. Remove the lugs from the glass clamps.

9. Screw the clamps to the wood post. In placing these clamps ensure that if the glass slipped to the deck level, that the top clamp will still support the glass.

10. Assemble the glass between the posts.

The WINDSOR Range of Glass Balustrades with Stainless Steel Posts back
Stainless Steel Posts and fittings come in two qualities. 304 Grade stainless steel is suitable for most ordinary internal and external uses, and 316 Marine Grade is recommended for outside areas within 5 miles of the sea or around swimming pools.

Our WINDSOR Solid Glass Balustrades are available with either a Stainless Steel or hardwood handrail. Windsor balustrades are easy to assemble.

Assembly Instructions for Windsor Glass Balustrades

1. The posts and handrail will be supplied to you pre-drilled. It is therefore necessary to tell us

a) The width of the glass that you require for each section. The width of glass is 4cm less that the distance between the posts. (This allows a 2cm gap between the glass and the post. This gap is required for the glass clamp.)

b) The height of the glass you require for each section. We need to know both the height you require and the distance of the glass from the deck. (This is required so that we can drill the hole in the posts for the clamps, such that if the glass were to slip, it would be supported by the top clamp.)

c) The overall height of the Balustrade. (This will allow us to cut the stainless steel posts to the correct height).

d) The width between the CENTRES of the posts for each section.

e) A sketch of the whole Balustrade. We are unable to supply fittings for glass that over hangs the decking.

PLEASE EITHER FAX THIS INFORMATION on 01793 488899 or email on gary@timberdeckingco.co.uk

This will allow us to quote a price to you, either for the stainless steel alone, or for both the glass and the stainless steel.

2. The glass and the Stainless Steel Posts and Fittings will arrive separately. You should allow around 3 weeks for the receipt of the glass as it is cut to your size and then tempered.

3. When glass and stainless steel has arrived, first erect the Stainless Steel Posts.

4. Remove the lugs from the glass clamps. These lugs are not required unless the glass over hangs the decking. In the event of the glass slipping, it will only slip to the deck level.

5. Assemble the glass and Glass Clamps.

6. Glue and/or screw the rail and supports to the posts.
